Boggs returns after a 6 year hiatus.
In 2015, we hosted our 11th annual Boggs 8 Hour mountain bike race -- Bike Monkey's original event. Later that year, a fire started and decimated the surrounding area. Communities were burnt to the ground. Boggs Demonstration State Forest was almost completely destroyed. The Valley Fire was the beginning of many shocking fires that began to ensue over the following years, jumping urban-wildland boundaries, destroying towns. It was, in a word, stunning.
We had to do something. Shortly afterwards, we started a fundraiser and drives for clothing, supplies and bikes so people impacted by this natural disaster could find comfort while they worked to recover. The money we were able to raise was allocated toward the purchase of 100,000 pine saplings. #RaiseThePines took on a literal meaning.
Six years later, the work is rounding the corner. We are at the finish line along with the Redwood Trails Alliance and countless people who have poured their hearts and souls into bringing back a place of great wonder.
In this forest, you can hear the echo of crows overhead, the sound of the lower atmosphere scraping through the treetops, and if you stand still long enough, you can feel the small tremble of the earth moving beneath your feet--a stark reminder not to push Mother Nature too far.
Join us in the return to this place that defined what Bike Monkey is today, which lets us marvel at the wonder of a forest on the top of a mountain.
Boggs returns May 6th - 8th. Bring your friends.
Your entry fee gets you into one of the most historic mountain bike races in California. It also gets you a post-race meal, access to camp at Boggs on Friday and Saturday night (if you include it), an optional event t-shirt, and a post-race beer from Barrel Brothers Brewing Company.
Podium spots which run 3-deep will make off with a one-of-a-kind commemorative event poster, and a smattering of prizes.
